Jun 2022: Micro Adventures & Artsy Fun

Ooh-wee, y’all – the summer is off to a pretty great start! Mini weekend adventures & artsy fun make up June’s High Five:

1)     One bonus of living in Columbus, Ohio is that Chicago is a quick plane ride away. So when I found out that Nick Cave’s Forothermore exhibit was going to be at the Windy City’s Museum of Contemporary Art, I snagged some tickets right away. The exhibit was full of Cave’s Soundsuits and other intricate & thought-provoking pieces. If you’re planning a trip to Chicago, it’s a must see!

2)     Plane rides (even short ones!) are made more bearable when I’ve got some good podcasts to listen to. This time around I found a new favorite with Your Last Meal with Rachel Belle. Each podcast is a blend of celebrity interview & history/culture lesson, exploring the guest’s choice for last meal. The interviews are fun & sometimes surprising (who knew that Carla Hall would want a cheeseburger?). Just don’t listen while you’re hungry!

3)     When I was a kid, I was really into collecting stickers. I had albums and albums of them, waiting to trade, show off or use for a very special pen pal letter. Now that I’m an adult, I still secretly kind of love them so I was pretty pumped that MakeStickers.com could take my Metro Parks designs & turn them into giant decals. I got overzealous & ordered a lot, so if you want one, make your dreams come true & check out my shop!

4)     I’ve been digging Lisa Congdon’s colorful designs for a while now, so I was extra excited when I saw that she collaborated with one of my former REI colleagues to create their Live Your Values Deck. It was fun to pour over beautifully illustrated cards & consider which ones spoke most to me. It was even more fun to compare & contrast with family and friends – with some a-has about why we jive or why we drive each other crazy.

5)     A recent library visit paid off with Grace Bonney’s Collective Wisdom. This book is full of interviews & stories from women (who happen to be over 50). The diversity & life experiences of these women are just amazing. I also love that each interview is just a few pages long, so I can get mini bursts of inspiration when I need a pick me up.
